What medicines and treatments for tension headaches
Acute treatment consists of painkillers, such as paracetamol or an anti-inflammatory such as naproxen or ibuprofen. In many cases, however, this medication does not provide relief. In case of an episodic tension headache, its use can lead to a medication dependent headache.
Preventive treatment consists of an antidepressant. In addition, relaxation therapy, behaviour therapy or coaching can be effective. The combination of medication and behavioural therapy often gives the best results. Acupuncture and bone ox afflictions have a low effectiveness score.
A healthy lifestyle with lots of exercise is the final part of the treatment.
